Questions to the Seller

  1. you dont have any trademark issues with match.com ?

  2. No. 'Match' is a generic term which can be used in the domain names easily.

Here are examples of websites which are online and have no troubles:

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q=match&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&num=100&lr=&as_filetype=&ft=i&as_sitesearch=&as_qdr=all&as_rights=&as_occt=url&cr=&as_nlo=&as_nhi=&safe=images

  4. We discovered this issue very attentively. If you use generic term on your website with the good faith you won't be sued.
Real example: if you register domain name Kiwi.com and tell there about birds Kiwi - it's ok. But if you tell there that show polishing company Kiwi sucks - you will be sued.

One more example - nissan.com - it's not website of Nissan corp - because owner has 2nd name Nissan and uses with good faith.

  5. match.com is trademarked

and you are using it in the same business as they are ....

If you used it for anything but dating then it's good faith

  7. Guys, switch on your brain and read the link I gave you.

Match.com is trademark, so it means you can't use matchcom.com/net/org/info, but not match.net/org/info

    Here are facts:

www.millionaireMATCH.com/ - dating site. Online for 7 years. NO LAWSUITS.

www.perfectMACTH.com/ - dating site. Online for 9 years. NO LAWSUITS.

www.meetMATCH.com/ - dating site. Online for 9 years. NO LAWSUITS.

www.mybestMACTH.net/ - dating site. Online for 1 year. NO LAWSUITS.

  8. why dont you sell it to match.com ? :)

  9. Do they need it? :)

Also if you read the link you can find that contacts with asking money for the domain name which is under question of lawsuit can lead of taken out from the previous owner. Ex if we ask Match.com to buy Match.net it could be read as blackmail and then they can sue us and take domain from us.

    Regards

  10. 1) If Match.com are half as big as u claim 50K is peanuts for them .
    2) If there are no "email exchanges from lawyers" that we dont know about change your WHOIS privacy settings and they'll contact you.

  11. OK, lets look at it like this:

The domain you have is worth a good amount, But you are marketing it all wrong, copying Match.com is not the way to go.
might not get you in trouble now but what happens if the site becomes sucessful... they will certainly try and get something out of you then.

    In my honest opnion...

Scrap the Match.com clone thing, you really dont have the money to compete against them or you would not be listing the site for sale.

Match is a great generic term so why not go for one of the biggest niche's in the market? "Football"

the name fits perfectly, and If I owned that domain I have a great idea that would make a site with a great domain like that very popular, vry quick once it caught on.

  13. Hate to add nothing to the thread, but I also agree. This mosquitto sniping thing has to end. Either sell the domain name only and let someone else take the risk, or change the site to something that isn't a blatant attempt to trade on the reputation of one of the largest dating sites in the world.

  15. They don't have to be right to sue you. They can sue and drag out the case for years, costing you hundreds of thousands of dollars, an incredible amount of time, and even after that process, which you probably won't have the funds to get through, you're not sure you'll get to keep the domain. I mean, who are you kidding here, by making a dating site like this you are playing off of the good will of their trademark.

Did you skip the part where it says the owners of nissan.com lost over $2,900,000 in attorney fees to win this lawsuit??

  17. Here's an Idea to get you started,

Setup a social network (yes I know there a tons of them BUT)

    Give this one a difference,

    1. Users sign up and join the club/s they support.
    2. The site then lists the teams e.g. top 100 via number of supporters.

Now, 99% of people love football (the other 1% are women :D)

So they will be more than willing to signup to support there team and recuit there mates to get on and support there team and they will be like, Ha my team is #1 on match.net see we are the best... blah blah blah.

Then you can add further stuff like football match events / results... / goal video's the list goes on.
Even add football games / arcade or like a dreamteam feature.

so take in what im saying ;) everything football!

The domain you have really gives you a chance here to make a sucessful website.

TIP: look at PHPFOX its a great social network whith all the features you would need as a base and then you would just have to get the rest custom coded, that will save you so money.

Note: by using my idea you promise to give me 99% of the revenue lol ;) only joking.

  18. All these other ideas are very valuble and I hope give you some inspiration to take them up. You'll be able to market match.net a lot more effectively and trouble free if you target the HUGE football/supporter niche. Good luck.

  19. bottom line is the site makes no money $100 a month, and you are trying to sell it minimum of $10,000. That will never happen.....................

  26. yes,I think it's a great value domain name & website why isn't it making any money, only $100p/m ??? why haven't you tried promoting it....as it stands though I don't think you will get anywhere in the vicinity of the minimum bid price, i.e., $10,000 And I agree with the other sitepoint users here that it is a bit risky, although you could use that risk to your advantage, I mean who knows, match.com might want to buy you out for an undisclosed sum of money so that it does'nt go to court....
