Perhaps you already now that membership sites are an excellent business model which generates millions of dollars in profits every year.

There are hardly any business models like that which can give you a regular pay check online in the way a membership site does. Starting your own membership site is perhaps THE best business model ever.

I have been running my membership site Nichecontentwebsites.com for the past 1,5 y. and have always made a good supplemental income from it. The site was established in January of 2007 and has grown its member base ever since.

The current number of members is 2504 which includes ALL members whether free or paid. The domain itself has a value of between $2600 - $3900 by itself (acc. to SwiftAppraisal.com).

In the beginning, I had a free membership level - that's why the total number of free members is quite high. But the free level can also be monetized by putting ads for other products on the download page and by asking them to subscribe to your paid level(s). I've made quite a few additional sales from that myself. But of course, this is only valid if you intend to have a free membership level again, too.

Here's how my membership level structure looked like when I was starting out:

Level 1: Free (1 free niche content website, 25 PLR articles, 2 header graphics per month)

Level 2: Silver ($14.95/mo.)

Level 3: Gold ($24.95/mo.)

Level 4: Platinum ($37.00/mo.)

Level 5: Diamond ($277/year)

The products consisted of 13 Adsense Niche Websites, 3 PLR Ebooks (incl. audio versions which were done by a friend of mine) & 3-5 Resell Rights Products which were Internet marketing related. In the beginning, I had been using the Butterfly Marketing script. It's still installed even though I changed to Amember earlier this year.

All the free members are still in the Butterfly section of the site. In order to make the best use of it, I would recommend that you own a copy of it so you can simply take over that section ( I am not allowed to sell it without you having a license - so either you have it already or you need to get a copy).

Or instead, you can export the members from there and then import them into the new Amember script - then you'll need to remove the Butterfly Script afterwards, though. That's up to you how you want to handle it...

Starting in January 2008, I offered sites which were created by me personally (thus sites which were unique to my site) because to be honest, I didn't want to continue my business relationship with the wholesaler from which I bought these sites/PLR content. Let's say we had a little personal twist... So I started doing everything on my own (and outsourced some parts - like article rewriting).

I restructured NCW in May 2008 and only offered 2 levels: Basic ($9.95/mo. non-unique sites) and Elite ($97/mo. unique sites & hosting & setup for them).

The site was making $950 in May 2008 (8 Elite members at $97/mo. + 15 members at $9.95 for shared sites). You have to deduct the outsourcing costs, though. They were $200 - which leaves a profit of $750. In the meantime, several members have cancelled, though, since I announced that I would not be able to keep up with the time needed for production and also because the freelancer who rewrote the PLR articles for me vanished and didn't get back to me. I have always been honest to my members and I expect the new owner to be honest, too.

These members will not remain active (4 still are, though), since I offered unique sites (unique content from rewritten PLR articles & unique designs which were limited in numbers e.g. 30 sites per topic) and everything else you can see on the salesletter. If you want to go this unique website route, too, then they'll probably (re)subscribe to your new service, too. But let me tell you that this is A LOT of work if you're not outsourcing everything (which on the other hand eats into your profits). I'll give you an easier option further down below.

75% of the free and paid members were generated from my own email list, 20% by my affiliates and 5% from direct search engine traffic. To be honest, I haven't done that many JVs or affiliate marketing because I have an email list of almost 10000 subscribers and made most of my announcements there (and also found my affiliates there).

If you are actively looking for more JV partners, you'll be making much more than me - that's for sure.

I'll give you the URL of the wholesaler so you don't have to be creating your own niche websites. It will be much easier to handle everything since all you need to do would be to upload the new products for the current month instead of having to create everything yourself and manage freelancers (I found mine on Scriptlance.com). The current price for becoming a member of this wholesaler is $97 per month but it will leave you hassle-free.
