Description:

This is an established butterfly marketing membership website with 1300+ users and includes the sole rights and source code for the software being distributed via the website. The software is a combination of several different tools that help users build monetized content rich websites.

The software includes an article writing assistant, content extractor, specialized multi pane research browsers, contextual ads, RSS feeds and more.

Initially the software was available as a free lite version with an offer to upgrade. Now only the premium version is available, currently selling at $US68.95.  Overall sales of approx $US2200 in 20 months.

I've basically run out of steam and recognize my weaknesses in the internet marketing domain so I want to bail out and let someone else profit from all the hard work I've put in whilst paying me a bit of recompense.

I've never been good at converting the traffic to the website or doing the whole sell to your list thing but there is an untapped opportunity here to make the most of all the visitors and the 1300+ existing members.

To further develop my baby you'll need java, php and javascript skills. Perhaps more importantly if you're great at driving traffic, getting fabulous copy written and can email market with the best of them then I'm sure you'll be able to do many times better than I have. And although $2200 is not a huge amount of money it's not too bad for a novice who has been pretty mediocre at most of the marketing side of things.

Things you could do to maximize the potential on offer here:

  • further developing the existing software
  • split the software into separate products
  • develop new products and market them through the existing site
  • rework the sales copy for better conversion
  • upsell the existing members to other offers
  • onsell resale rights of the software and/or source code to others
  • think outside the square for other opportunities

Last I checked (do your own research) there was similar software available from other marketers with much less functionality for more dollars. So there is an opportunity here for people with a talent for  marketing software, especially if the product is updated.

This is not some simple piece of junk code thrown together in a few weeks. It is a sophisticated and mature tool that took many months and thousands of lines of source code to develop. If you were to try and outsource it through rentacoder or similar you could expect to pay thosuands of dollars for it.

There is an article writing assistant that provides keyword based content snippets. Also a speed writing template that provides a proven framework for writing an article from scratch.
Content extraction is also provided which allows the user to define rules for scraping content from any chosen sites that  allow it.
The specialized multi pane research browsers make it easy for users to identify niches and content.

A contextual based advertising tool provides for easy insertion of ad links within content pages.
RSS feeds can easily be utilized for proving further dynamic content.
Multi window browsers, search replace tool and more make researching content and building websites much simpler than building from scratch.

Revenue Details:

The main revenue is from selling of the software that I developed and to which you will receive sole IP rights. You will also have the potential to market to the membership base.

The monthly revenue figure above is derived from total sales over the life of the domain divided by the number of months. The reality is that the revenue is not consistent. It comes in waves of activity and inactivity, I am trying to be as transparent as I can here.

Traffic Details:

Most traffic come from the internet search engines Windows Live and Google in that order.

People looking for software to help them build internet marketing sites are the most common visitors.

    Alternatively you could replace the butterfly marketing membership software with equivalent of your choice or you could not bother with membership software at all, the choice is yours.

    I could provide you with a copy to demo. I don't claim it to be the easiest software in the world to use. I personally don't think it is difficult to use but then again I started off work as a programmer so I am not objective. I would describe it as taking a little bit of time to get the hang of but you will reap the rewards if you do. It is not a fully automated program, it is semi automated, I have used fully automated tools and I personally don't like the results they produce. Less automation means it takes longer to produce a result but you also have a lot more flexibility and power at your disposal.

    the butterfly marketing website, is that the website host? is any content for the site through that company?

    are there any reaccuring costs associated with butterfly marketing?

    To Stronger03 my site was listed under classified ads for one day. That was a mistake as I intended for it to be an auction, one of the support people for SitePoint deleted the ad so I could re-list as an auction. Apart from that I have never listed at SitePoint before.

    To reply to sevanine. Butterfly Marketing is sold by Mike Filsaime as a standalone product, it's a one off purchase, there are no recurring costs.

    None of the "content" is provided by the website host or from Butterfly Marketing. All of the copy, pictures, videos, products etc were provided by me.

    I dropped you an email but did not receive a reply.

    I have installed Firefox (new install) and then just tried installing the FireFox plug-in and got this error:

    "UCC Autosave Document 1.0.0.0 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Firefox 3.0.1."

    What do I need to try this out?

    Actually I emailed you twice (about 10 hours ago) so I don't know what is going on there, perhaps a filter is swallowing my emails or your email is temporarily blocked up.

    In any case the problem is now fixed, I had to make some minor changes to the plug-in. The reason being that Firefox 3.0 (very recent release) created an incompatibility issue that I was not aware of. You can log into the membership area and download the latest or you can use the new plug-in if my emails ever get through!

    A couple of questions,

    Can I get demo software to check out the functions?

    Since the winner will get exclusive rights to the software i'm assuming the winner has to provide support, is this correct?

    the 1300 members don't pay monthly fees now or do they?

    Sure you can get a demo, just PM me the email you'd like to be entered with.

    Yes the winner would have to provide support but I would help you out for a while, I don't think it would be fair if I didn't. My experience with support is that 95% of people of buyers you never hear from and with the other 5% you may get a whole stack of questions upfront until they understand the program better.

    The 1300 members don't pay monthly fees but with Butterfly Marketing you have the option to do things like that. You couldn't do it with the existing members but you could create new membership levels and offer it to existing and new members. BM is not the easiest membership software in the world to use but it does provide you with a number of options like many levels of membership, recurring fees etc.

    Just an update on sales. Since I put Ultimate Content Creator up for auction I have had 5 sales and had to issue one refund, in the week prior to listing I had 2 sales. All these sales have been at $68.95.

    In the case of the refund this time, the particular user was having a number of problems. One was a software problem that I fixed but the other stuff seemed mostly small things that he was not understanding. The program is not ideal for users who have no computer savvy, it is better suited to people who know their way around a little bit but you certainly don't need to be an expert.

    Don't ask me why I've had more sales recently. If I knew why and/or I could guarantee that they would continue at this level for a few more months (which I can't) I would not be selling!

    I never hear from most purchasers, I can't say I have accurate metrics on this but perhaps 80%.

    Recently I've had more than usual due to Firefox 3 precipitating a change with the Firefox plug in.

    If I go back to September last year then I've only had queries from 6 of the individuals who purchased. 3 of these were taken care of with 1 or 2 emails and the other 3 took more like 5 or 6.
