The LOST Blog - PR5 - 60,000+ Unique Visitors

One of the world's most popular sites about ABC's LOST

  • Listed: Fri, 30 Mar 2007 14:52:26 GMT

Description:

About the site
The Lost Blog is one of the world’s most popular websites dedicated to the ABC TV-series “Lost”.

The site has been mentioned in articles by Google, The Guardian and an uncountable number of websites, books and magazines. We have received interview requests from MSNBC and TIME Magazine. Through the site, I have also worked with Lost production company Touchstone Television to help them find suitable persons for their Advisory Panel.

We have a very active reader base and often host very intelligent discussions in the comments of the blog. It is not unusual to see over 150-300 comments on posts focusing on episodes or theories. We currently have over 500 posts and close to 8,500 comments.

The posts have been written mainly by myself, but around 100 of them are written by other contributors.

The site is the first result on Google searches like "lost blog" and "new lost", on the first page of keywords such as "lost episode" and "lost news" and the first result on the third page for the highly competitive keyword "lost".

The Lost Blog is running on the latest version of Wordpress. The layout has been custom designed by me and has gone through a lot of tweaking to get it as close to perfection as possible. Plugins and features like polls and notification of new comments since the last visit have been implemented and customized for the site.

Domains
Besides lostblog.net, the domain http://www.thelostblog.net would also be included in the sale. The domains are registered with Namecheap and can be easily pushed or transfered.

Other Details
Alexa Rank - 228,717
Feedburner subscribers - 1,443

Reason for selling
I'm still a dedicated fan of "Lost" but have decided to focus 110% on my writing/directing career.

Other thoughts
Ideally, I'm looking for a buyer who wants to maintain the sense of community with the regular readers.

The Lost Blog is know for not posting or allowing discussion of spoilers. Most current readers seem to appreciate that.

I'd be willing to help the new owner settle in during 2-3 weeks after the sale.

If you have any questions, just ask!

Questions to the Seller

  1. Somewhat overvalued. Most sellers tend to ask for around 9 - 12 months earnings as a guide price. Not only that, as ratings of the show fall worldwide, you will be lucky to get a season 5 + 6, this gives the buyer only 2-3 years to make any money. If I was buying a website with maybe 2 years left to make money, a BIN of nearer $2000 would be more representitive of its true value?

  2. If you feel that the BIN is too high, feel free to make a lower offer as all offers will be considered.

  3. I don't expect to win at my bid, but this is a quality site and should sell at the current BIN.

  5. Thank you for your offers and the nice words Chimaera and Trippyvibes.

It should be known that I'm looking for $3000+ for the site and will probably not be selling it for much lower, but if you are interested in the site, please make an offer and we'll see what happens as the sale comes to an end.

  7. Stats of all kinds can be seen here.

Researching and writing posts takes anything between 15 minutes to 5 hours. It really depends on what kind of posts I'm writing. Obviously it takes less time to write about news than to produce well developed theories.

I will let the buyer know my ways of finding news and ideas for posts.

I'm answering PM's as fast as I can, so please don't be offended it it takes a while!

  10. It should be known that if an acceptable offer is made and there are no more offers within a few days, the site could be sold before the end of this auction, so I would strongly advice those interested to not wait until the last minute.

  11. The Lost Blog has now been linked from TVSquad too, so the site is pretty much as famous as Donald Trump now, hehe.

Highest offer is $2000 but I'm also negotiating with a potential buyer who would be willing to pay BIN, so I would encourage those interested in the site to make an offer or to get in touch with me as soon as possible.

  12. I am currently negotiating a potential BIN sale so if you are interested in the site, please let me know asap.

As a little trivia, The Lost Blog is worth $81,293.76 according to http://www.business-opportunities.biz/projects/how-much-is-your-blog-worth/worth.php?url=http://www.lostblog.net. I know those numbers might be a bit inflated, but in my humble opinion the site is worth at least the $4,500 BIN.

  13. Please feel free to make offers independently of the currently highest offer as I'm not only considering the money but also your plans for the site. I'd be glad to hear all reasonable offers ($2000+) and tell you more about the site.

The Lost Blog was visited by 78,000 unique visitors last month and currently has an average of 2,500 daily visitors and 4,800 pageviews.

We have also passed 9000 comments from our readers.

  16. How much do you make from the Amazon DVD Sales for the previous Lost Seasons?

Also what is the updated # of Subscribers in Feedburner?

    Thanks,

  17. I'm not making anything significant from the amazon banner at the top of the site. However, I was working on a shop/store page where it would be possible to directly buy dvd's, books and so on, but I got a bit sidetracked. Such a page could probably work quite well for the site.

Feedburner subscribers are at 1387 right now, but it always drops during the weekend due to people not connecting to their feed readers. I'm pretty sure that subscribers will be back around 1500 during the week.
